Oriental Medicine has been used for thousands of years with nearly one-third of the world using it as their primary care system and many other countries as a complimentary therapy. Acupuncture is based on the theory of Qi (energy), good health depends on the positive flow of Qi through the body. If the flow of Qi is disturbed, blocked, or depleted disharmony in the form of physical illness, mental distress, or pain can arise. An Acupuncturist places fine sterile needles at specific points in the body to activate the body’s energy and promote natural healing.
The practice of Chinese Herbal Medicine can be traced back several thousand years and is now used to treat everything from the common cold to symptoms associated with cancer. There are thousands of herbs in the Chinese materia medica of which about 300 are commonly used. After consultation an herbal formula consisting of 6-12 herbs is created to treat your specific condition and constitution. *Please note that the cost of the herbs is additional to the visit, a typical formula lasting 10 days is about 25-30 dollars

Modalities Incorporated into Treatment
Cupping
Cupping is done using glass, silicone or plastic cups that are placed onto various areas of the body by creating a partial vacuum within the cup. Cups can be held stationary in one area or slid up and down specific muscles or meridian lines. This will cause blood vessels to widen, increasing blood flow, stimulating circulation and moving toxins (such as lactic acid) out of the area.
Moxibustion
Moxibustion is the use of dried herb (usually artemisia argyi or commonly known as Mugwort) to warm specific Acupuncture points or areas of the body. Moxa can be done by being placed directly on the skin, held slightly away from the body, or placed onto an already inserted needle. Some uses for moxa are warming the channels and collaterals, boosting energy, and even used in treatments to turn breach babies.
Gua Sha
Broken down ‘Gua” means scraping or scratching and “Sha” means redness. Gua Sha is done using a small round edged tool to scrape specific areas of the body, much like cupping this circulates blood and releases congested metabolic waste from the area. Frequently done on sore muscles and is especially effective in the treatment of colds.
Electro-Acupuncture
Electro- Acupuncture is done by adding electrical currents to already inserted Acupuncture needles. The frequency and intensity of the impulse can be adjusted according to the specific condition being treated. Current placed on acupuncture needles can stimulate a larger area around the needle and a faster treatment response time is often seen, this is therefore useful for most areas of injury and pain.
Auricular
In Chinese Medicine the ear is seen as a microsystem with specific points on the ear reflecting areas of the body. Therefore, stimulating points on the surface of the ear with small needles or taped on seeds for acupressure can treat various conditions affecting the body. Auricular acupuncture can be added in to enhance a body acupuncture treatment and is also useful for treating areas that cannot be easily reached with needles. The main treatment for addictions and stop smoking treatments is done through the NADA protocol that uses five specific points in each ear.
Motor Point Acupuncture
Motor points are located on the skin over the muscle approximately where the nerve enters the muscle belly. It is the area of the muscle that is electrically excitable and has the greatest concentration of nerve endings. Acupuncture to a motor point “resets” the dysfunctional muscle spindle that is causing abnormal muscle function. A reflexive spasm occurs releasing muscle shortening, lengthening the muscle back out and restoring functioning.

During treatment the face is first cleansed with a natural all-organic toner, small intradermal needles are inserted into fine lines, furrows and crow’s feet and other problem areas.
When the needles are inserted into the epidermal layer of the skin the body senses “trauma” to the skin. The skin then starts it’s healing process and produces more collagen, fibrin and elastin molecules creating healthy cells that can fill in wrinkles and blemishes as well as restore, lift and support the skin.
As a result you see a more rejuvenated face! Treatment finishes with gentle Gua Sha and jade rolling of the face.
For optimal results one session per week is recommended for the first four weeks in a row, followed by one session every 2-3 weeks for the next 3 months. (Around 10 sessions). Side effects can include some minor bruising.
